The Odelzhausen fire brigade has solved the riddle of the fire brigade model that suddenly stood in front of the fire station.

The unknown hobbyist has been found.

Odelzhausen

- “One day the fire brigade model was simply standing on our bench under the canopy of our fire station,” says Oliver Mathis, 2nd commandant of the Odelzhausen fire brigade.

"And we didn't know who to thank for this nice gift, a real encouragement in dreary Corona times".

Last Saturday the resolution took place, the "perpetrator" came by personally and told how it came about.

Hannes Koch is the originator of the fire brigade model

Hannes Koch lives in a facility for mentally handicapped people outside the district and is picked up at regular intervals by his sister and guardian Petra Wutz and her husband and therefore knows Odelzhausen very well.

In Corona times, Hannes had too little activity and "at some point came up with the idea of tinkering with paper mache".

He saw a model of a fire station in a model magazine, and in order to give the tinkering a framework, he decided to build a fire station for Odelzhausen.

“With my pocket money I bought two model fire engines, later a Bavaria flag and other small parts.

This is how the new Odelzhausen fire station was built bit by bit. "

A gift for the fire department

But what do you do with it?

It was too big for our own room, so he and his sister thought about giving it to the Odelzhausen fire brigade as a present.

Neither of them had any contact with the local fire brigade, didn't know anyone and therefore didn't know who to turn to during Corona times.

So they just drove to the fire station and, since nobody was there, put the model on a table under a rain-protected canopy, where they were sure that it would not break.

They also enclosed a short letter explaining the reason for the handicraft campaign.

They left out the name of the author on purpose, as they didn't want a big fuss and just wanted it to be understood as a gesture.

Fire brigade starts looking for unknown hobbyist - with success

What Koch didn't expect was the ambition the firefighters had to find out who had given them this nice gift.

After extensive network research and a few phone calls, the fire brigade finally came up with the originator Hannes and his sister Petra.

“I wouldn't have thought that this would make such waves,” she said, and Hannes was beaming when he received a shopping voucher from 1st Commandant Benny Küpper for the shop in his facility where he kept getting things for his daily needs .

It is not yet entirely clear where the model will ultimately find its place in the fire station, explains Oliver Mathis: “The best thing would be a display case in front of the fire station so that everyone can see it.

Unfortunately we don't have it yet, but we will find a suitable place! "
