Nicaraguan presidential candidate Juan Sebastián Chamorro was arrested on Tuesday, according to a police statement. Among the charges he is accused of are "carrying out acts that undermine the independence and sovereignty of Nicaragua" and "applauding the imposition of sanctions against the State." Chamorro, who was summoned by the Prosecutor's Office this Wednesday, is the fourth presidential candidate arrested in recent days. His cousin Cristiana Chamorro, also a candidate, and opposition leader José Adán Aguerri are among the recent detainees. In a video recorded before the capture, Juan Sebastián Chamorro encouraged Nicaraguans to "continue fighting against a criminal dictatorship."
