In As-Suwayda, the harvest operations of chickpea crop started, within the areas that were cultivated for the current season, amounting to 23274 hectares.
The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the harvest operations for the current season were early as a result of weather conditions, indicating that they are done manually and continue during the current and next two months, according to the area of cultivation.
He pointed out that the reality of the chickpea crop production is average for the current season in some locations or below average in others, indicating that the initial production estimates at the governorate level amount to 5860 tons.
Chickpea is one of the main crops in As-Suwayda Governorate, noting that the majority of its cultivated varieties are spring and rainfed.
