The United States buys
500 million
coronavirus
vaccines
from
Pfizer
to share with the global COVAX program next year.
The COVAX fund is an initiative that has the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), the GAVI-Vaccunes Alliance (created in 2000, promoted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) and CEPI, the acronym in English from Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.
Unlike direct agreements between countries and pharmaceutical companies, or those that become "State-State" (such as the Sputnik V vaccine), COVAX acts as an intermediary in negotiations between companies and governments.
In this way, donor countries, individuals and entities with a philanthropic profile put money to
subsidize the less wealthy countries.
