The workshops of the Governorate of Damascus started today the work of rehabilitating the infrastructure of the Bab Sarija market, as part of the work to rehabilitate the old markets of Damascus, preserve its archaeological and architectural features, develop its infrastructure, and pay attention to the aesthetic and archaeological aspect of it.
The works that start from opposite the Zaid bin Thabet Mosque, the first door of Sirijeh and up to the door of Al-Jabiya, include dismantling the Laboun stone in the market with an area of 3200 square meters and implementing a layer of reinforced concrete under the stone after carrying out the leveling work and brushing the lenticular layer, according to the director of technical studies in the governorate, Engineer Muammar Al-Dakak, who indicated In a statement to the SANA representative, the work will include maintenance of the existing infrastructure on the road, including water, electricity, telephone and sewage.
Al-Dakkak pointed out that the works also include re-installing the loose and cleaned limestone, compensating for the lost, rehabilitating the old sidewalks with an area of 800 square meters and the basalt margins of 1,600 linear meters, and replacing the damaged tiles with basalt stone in line with the spirit of the archaeological market and the limestone implemented in its floor, pointing out that The General Company for Building and Reconstruction will carry out rehabilitation works through the contract concluded with the governorate.
Last January, the Damascus Governorate began rehabilitation and maintenance works for the Soroujia market, which is one of the most important and oldest markets in Old Damascus.
