This is the first high-level visit after months of extreme tension between the two countries.
The meeting that was scheduled for Monday between the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavusoglu, and Jean-Yves Le Drian is, according to the Elysee, "
a step to prepare for the NATO summit
" to be held in Brussels on June 14 .
It is also a further step in the appeasement of bilateral relations that have been in operation in the two capitals for several weeks.
