Travel abroad: the deadlines to respect once vaccinated or cured of Covid-19

2021-06-09T12:35:43.993Z

People vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid-19 must wait several weeks before their vaccination or recovery certificate is recognized by the country of destination. In Europe, the health pass will authenticate them.

From when am I considered vaccinated for travel?

Vaccinated people can already enter some European countries without having to perform a PCR test or quarantine. This rule will be extended to all the countries of the Union, as well as to Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Lichtenstein, with the implementation of the "European health pass" from July 1. But for the vaccination certificate to be valid and accepted upon arrival in one of these states, the vaccination schedule must be complete, i.e. two weeks after the second injection for double-injection vaccines (

Pfizer

,

Moderna

and

AstraZeneca

) and four weeks after injection for the single injection vaccine (

Janssen

).

For people who have already contracted the virus, vaccination is complete two weeks after administration of a single dose.

Thus, if you have just received a first dose of Pfizer or Moderna, it is necessary to wait between six and eight weeks before having a valid vaccination certificate, the time between the two injections being between four and six weeks.

The Doctolib appointment booking platform allows you to choose the dates of the first and second injection at the same time.

Enough to help you estimate the date when you will get the precious sesame.

From when am I considered cured of Covid-19 to travel?

If you have just tested positive for the virus, you will have to wait 15 days before traveling abroad. People who have contracted the coronavirus are considered "immune" from 15 days and up to 180 days after infection. Which must be proven by a positive PCR or antigen test. The latter acts as a "certificate of immunity", sometimes also called a "certificate of recovery", and includes the French and European health passes. To retrieve the results of your test, go to the sidep.gouv.fr site by following the link received by SMS or email or by logging in with your Ameli or France Connect credentials. You can print the document or add it to your "Notebook" from the TousAntiCovid application.

Be careful, serological tests, which detect the level of antibodies against SARS-Cov-2, are not part of the health pass, neither in France nor in Europe.

In practice, the duration of immunity is defined by each State.

It is therefore important to find out beforehand about the rules applicable in the country of destination, as the Twenty-Seven have not yet agreed on this question.

In Greece, only certificates of immunity older than two months and less than nine months old are accepted.

In Croatia, this period is between 11 and 180 days following infection.

In Romania, only people who contracted the virus between 14 and 90 days before arrival can enter the territory without restriction.

Some states outside the EU do not accept the certificate of immunity at all. Only proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test can cross borders. This is for example the case in Morocco (which plans the resumption of tourism on June 15) or in the United Arab Emirates. In Tunisia, you have to wait at least six weeks after infection before you can enter the country without a negative PCR test.
