Documentation of a group of Arabs from East Jerusalem attacking a Jewish driver reached Walla! Today (Thursday), about three weeks after the incident.

According to the video from the street cameras, in an incident that took place on May 21, the Arabs arrived at the French Hill junction in the city with batons in their hands.

M., a resident of Jerusalem, drove to his home, noticed rioters trying to attack another vehicle, and when the traffic light changed to red, he tried to photograph them.

When they noticed M. with the phone in his hand, they approached his car and attacked him with batons and pepper spray.

One of them took advantage of the fact that the car window shattered to pieces - and hit the goddess in the head.

M. escaped from the attackers as he crossed the intersection at a red light.

Despite the moments of horror, he managed to call the 100 police hotline at the time of the attack.

This is how the conversation went.

Troops who arrived at the scene managed to locate one of the suspects at the scene and arrested him.

M., who tried to escape from the scene, was injured and rushed in a light condition for medical treatment at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus in the city.

The car window was shattered and the driver's window was completely broken.

The attackers also damaged the trash can.

The Jerusalem District Police Chief, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, ordered that the suspects who participated in the attack be arrested.

The investigation conducted at the Lev HaBira police station led to three other suspects, whose detention was extended from time to time in court.

Some of the defendants confessed to the interrogation attributed to them, and some claimed that they acted out of self-defense motive, after they allegedly threw stones in the direction of their nearby house.

"The attack is not serious"

Although the police attributed racist or nationalist motives to the rioters, and despite the documentation and evidence in the case, the prosecutor's office decided that the Jerusalem District Prosecution Unit in the police would be the one to file the indictment. The determination meant that the defendants were charged with two counts - intentional sabotage of a vehicle together and an assault causing actual injury by two or more - and not an assault of nationalist or racist motive, since only the prosecution is allowed to file indictments of nationalist motives. Here too, as in the lynching attempt that took place in Jaffa and was exposed at Walla! Last month, the prosecution did not believe that there was an evidentiary basis for filing indictments from a nationalist motive.

The police prosecution filed the indictment in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, and at a hearing held last Monday, the police requested detention until the end of the proceedings for the four defendants, claiming the high danger posed by them.

Judge Elazar Bialin denied the police request and ordered the four to be released under house arrest.

"The circumstances surrounding the commission of the offenses establish grounds for arrest of dangerous. The attack described without relieving it is not one of the most serious," the judge wrote in his decision.

The police appealed to the city district court, where Judge Miriam Ilani reversed the peace decision.

She decided that the four would be detained until further notice, and ordered the probation service to file a review of their case by the end of the month.

"The act attributed to the respondents is serious and violent. The terror the defendants inflicted on the complainant can be learned from the fact that the complainant had to flee for his life while driving at a red light, and the distress he was in can be learned from the conversation with Hotline 100."
