This morning, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, received the credentials of Christoph Martin as the new head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Syria.
Talks during the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Syria and the International Committee of the Red Cross and developing a strong and positive relationship between the two parties through the adoption of mutual trust and continuous interaction on all the activities carried out by the Committee in Syria.
The head of the ICRC delegation stressed that he looks forward to working in Syria, especially that the ICRC delegation in Syria is the largest in the world, considering that this is evidence of the ICRC's interest in striving hard to achieve the humanitarian goals of the International Red Cross.
For his part, Minister Miqdad praised the cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and wished the new head of mission success in his duties, stressing the importance of continuous coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government to ensure the achievement of the desired results from the work of the Committee and to increase the effectiveness of its presence in all Syrian regions.
Minister Miqdad also thanked the former head of mission Philip Spory for his efforts to deepen cooperation during his work in Damascus and push the relationship between the Syrian government and the International Committee of the Red Cross forward, wishing him success in his future assignments with the International Committee.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister, Milad Attia, Director of the Organizations Department, Dr. Sami Salama, Director of Protocol, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Minister’s Office, Warif Al-Halabi, Director of the Information Department, Dr. Ammar Awad from the International Organizations Department, Roaa Sharbaji from the Minister’s office and Philippe, the International Committee of the Red Cross. Spuri is the former head of the ICRC delegation in Syria.
