For safety reasons, the road construction authority has put guardrails on the B 2 between Bruck and Mammendorf.

But now cyclists and farmers no longer come directly from one side of the road to the other.

The CSU calls for improvements.

Puch

- CSU local chairman Andreas Lohde speaks of a shield prank. For several weeks now, guardrails have been decorating both sides of the street over a length of 600 meters between Puch and the brickworks. The result: the direct connection between cycle and field paths is cut. Again and again, Lohde observes how cyclists cycle or push a bit on the main road until they come back on the cycle path. There are some on the way there, because the cycle path leads to a nursery, among other things. “That is incomprehensible,” says Lohde. ADFC district chairman Adi Stumper also criticized the action.

The guard rails are part of the Road Safety Program 2030 of the Federal Ministry of Transport.

They should be in all places where obstacles are closer than 4.50 meters to the edge of the road - such as trees - and a speed limit of 70 or more is allowed, explains Thomas Jakob, spokesman for the road construction department.

“Regardless of the accident situation.” The “Vision Zero” strategy - that is to say no more accidents at all - is intended to avoid serious personal injury as far as possible.

The renouncement of fast crossing possibilities in the form of culverts reduces the risk of accidents.

"The alternative would be to cut the trees."

The action, which, according to the CSU, was not discussed with the city administration and the police, does not only arouse criticism from the ADFC.

"In the last 30 years I have been involved in serious traffic accidents on the B2 as a firefighter," says Lohde.

"The crash barriers may protect against a collision with a tree, but they tend to lead to head-on collisions with oncoming traffic because it is no longer possible to swerve between the trees." Andreas Bernhard.

If you slip, you inevitably slide towards the support posts of the guardrails.

That could lead to very serious injuries.

Farmers express criticism

Farmers and employees of the state experimental farm in Puch also complain that they have to take their tractors to the B2 in order to be able to turn into the dirt road. “The guardrails act like barricades that make it difficult for us to access our fields,” explains organic farmer and CSU city councilor Markus Britzelmair. The agriculturally used land can still be reached, emphasizes Thomas Jakob. "In individual cases, this may mean a little detour for the farmers, but it significantly increases road safety."

Jakob announces that the section of the B2 between Puch and Mammendorf will be checked again, especially with regard to crossings for cyclists. The CSU also wants that. "It cannot be in the spirit of Vision Zero that pedestrians, cyclists, farmers and other road users are exposed to an increased risk because structural measures are being implemented that can perhaps be justified in a piece of forest," says Lohde. In his opinion, a speed reduction would have made the most sense. The road traffic authority in the district office decides on this, explains Jakob.
