E-bikes are also allowed: This is how city cycling works this year

From Sunday on, the hard-working pedals are in demand again.

Because from June 13th to July 3rd, city cycling and the hunt for the most kilometers will be on again.

Fürstenfeldbruck - Registration is already possible.

And help from a small electric motor is also allowed.

Claudia Gessner, bicycle traffic officer in the town hall, explains how it works.

What is city cycling about?

Muscle power instead of horsepower: In city cycling - a campaign by the Climate Alliance - people should cover as many kilometers as possible on two wheels in three weeks - and thus make a contribution to climate protection.

"Our goal is to cover the 100,000 kilometers again," says Claudia Gessner.

"That is a threshold that one should already reach."

How can I participate?

Ultimately, city cycling is a competition between the municipalities.

You can register on the website www.stadtradeln.de/fuerstenfeldbruck.

For this purpose, teams can be formed that consist of at least two people.

Those who are alone can take part in the city's open team.

There are different ratings, such as most total kilometers and also most kilometers per capita.

Therefore, the team size is not necessarily critical.

The kilometers can be registered on the website.

There is also a city bike app that can calculate routes precisely.

Last year 506 citizens took part.

The defending champions in Bruck are the students of the Graf-Rasso-Gymnasium, who covered 35,158 kilometers last year.

"Schools are a big mileage carrier," says Gessner.

And not just in the district capital.

Therefore this year there is a separate category - school cycling.

Are e-bikes and pedelecs allowed?

Although muscle strength is actually required - a little help is allowed.

“Even when cycling fans ride their newly acquired pedelecs, they can count the kilometers in the normal way,” explains Claudia Gessner.

“Because it has been proven that the use of e-bikes and pedelecs also makes you fit.” You still have to pedal.

Is there another opening tour?

The starting shot for city cycling will be given on Sunday, June 13th at 10 a.m. on Niederbronnerplatz. The joint tour, organized by the city and the ADFC, leads in a wide arc to Puchheim. Only the planned corso through Puchheim cannot take place due to the pandemic. "We could do more, but we don't want to exhaust it," says ADFC district chairman Adi Stumper. Instead of the common round, the cycling teams now arrive in Puchheim with a delay. You can register for the kick-off tour today by emailing claudia.gessner@fuerstenfeldbruck.de. But nobody is left standing either.

The cycling officer hopes that many Bruckers will take part again this year and do something like this for climate protection and at the same time for their own fitness. "Many registrations have already been received and teams have been formed," she reports. And even during the three weeks you can still register and enter your kilometers retrospectively. imu
