Inexpensive electricity, trade taxes and good returns: all of this is promised by the reports for the wind turbine projects in the Hofoldinger and Höhenkirchner forests.

Inexpensive electricity, trade taxes and good returns: all of this is promised by the reports for the wind turbine projects in the Hofoldinger and Höhenkirchner forests.

District

- The two wind power alliances in the southeast of the district are obviously looking forward to a bright future.

In terms of economy and nature conservation, experts from the Hofoldinger Forst working group and its counterpart in the Höhenkirchner Forst issued excellent certificates in the district environmental committee.

Declared dead a few years ago, wind energy is becoming a permanent fixture in the portfolio of renewable energies.

Thanks to government grants under the EEG, wind power is now profitable even in so-called low-wind regions.

No wonder that the district of Munich supports the establishment of a third “Working Group on Wind Energy in Forstenrieder Park”.

Return "in the single-digit medium to high range"

The wind power alliances Hofoldinger and Höhenkirchner Forst, which have been in preparation for years, are planning six wind turbines; one each in the area of the six member communities from the districts of Munich (Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, Aying, Sauerlach), Miesbach (Otterfing) and Ebersberg (Egmating, Oberpframmern). According to projections, each wind turbine produces up to 10,600 MWh of electricity, which corresponds to the annual yield of twelve south-facing photovoltaic open-air systems, each with a size of 750 kilowatt peak (1 kilowatt = 1000 watt) and an area consumption of around one hectare per system. The electricity produced in the consortia costs just 8.1 cents per kilowatt hour (ct / kWh) even with a conservative calculation. According to the Federal Network Agency, the average electricity price in 2020 was 31.9 ct / kWh.The systems are organized on a cooperative basis and maintained with citizen participation. The investment amount is 19.2 million euros in the Hofoldinger forest and 19.7 million euros for the Höhenkirchen forest. Shareholders can expect an above-average return "in the single-digit medium to high range", according to the experts.

The withdrawal of the Brunnthal community from the Hofoldinger Forst consortium does not change this.

The share of the remaining communities of Sauerlach, Otterfing and Aying in the planning costs increases from ten to 16.67 percent.

Nevertheless, the community wind projects are placed in what the experts put into a "very good market window".

The main production times for wind energy are autumn and winter.

The wind mostly blows from the west-southwest.

According to the report, the wind speed increases significantly with the height of the systems, which reach up to 240 meters.

"Business taxes, unbeatable cheap electricity and uniquely good returns"

The fact that Brunnthal left the association of wind energy-producing municipalities after protests by the population met with regret throughout the district councils.

Kilian Körner (Greens) and Max Kraus (FW) would at least like to see another municipality take the vacant place in the Hofoldinger Forest consortium.

All in all, the wind power alliances in the south-east of Munich are considered lighthouse projects and at the same time an ideal investment for residents of the respective communities.

Oliver Seth (Greens) is only able to recognize advantages: "There are only winners," said the district councilor, who lives in Straßlach-Dingharting: "Business taxes for municipalities, unbeatable cheap electricity and a uniquely good return for investors."

The nature conservation investigation, which is also due, does nothing to change this.

When looking at possible impairments for red kites, honey buzzards, bats & Co, the expert sees no “significant obstacles for wind energy”;

neither in the Hofoldinger nor in the Höhenkirchen forest.
