In the “How are you?” Series, we ask people from the district how they experience the unusual Corona times.

Today: Indoor swimming pool manager Madeline Schön.

Geretsried - For months she has been sitting on dry land in the truest sense of the word: Madeline Schön, manager of the indoor pool, more precisely master for pool operations.

This is due to the corona pandemic and the associated closure of the indoor pool.

Nevertheless, the 30-year-old native of Upper Franconia is anything but boring.

Ms. Schön, when was the last time you saw people in the water?

Madeline Schön:

(laughs) I can say that exactly: It was November 1st, 2020. It was our last day of swimming, I think it was a Sunday.

From November 2nd everything was closed.

We were already happy when it was said last year that we could start again in summer 2020.

We had finished everything and let the water in - but then we weren't allowed to open it.

That was also sad because we had hired a lot of new employees.

Whats become of you?

Madeline Schön:

They started working elsewhere in the city, such as in the building yard, in the administration and the library - but not in the indoor swimming pool.

And you?

Madeline Schön:

Since the indoor pool in the town hall is part of the family, education, culture and sport department, I was in the office there.

I worked a lot with Beate Mews, who is responsible for sports management.

It was good to get such an insight.

Together we created the hygiene concepts for the gyms.

I already had experience from the indoor pool.

Now I'm already helping in the new bathroom.

It turned out great.

The only thing missing personally would be a five-meter board.

How long have you been working for the city?

Madeline Schön:

Since 2014. I was hired as a master for the old indoor pool.

When the then manager Rudi Egger left, I took over his position.

Incidentally, we already knew each other from the final class of the master school.

He brought me to Geretsried.

“You”, he told me, “we are building a new indoor swimming pool in Geretsried.” I thought that was great.

And because I moved to Munich from Upper Franconia because of love, it worked out really well.

However, I did not think that in the end it would happen after seven years.

When did you expect the new bathroom?

Madeline Schön:

More like 2015. In the first discussions we had considered that I would work in the old swimming pool for another year.

As I said, I got the position of operations manager - which was not so bad in terms of the indoor pool size to get used to.

Another topic was the management of the employees, who are often older than me.

But everything went well.

I can only say that we are a great team.

Now I'm looking forward to looking after the large property.

What do you miss most during the closure?

Madeline Schön:

Actually unlocking the door and saying: “I would like to warmly welcome you and you to a swim.” Maybe that sounds strange now, but it was always so nice when our regular guests came.

It was a really friendly deal with each other.

And of course I miss the technology too.

It's a big part of the job.

Replacing a pump here or gluing a pipe is something completely different from sitting in front of the computer in the office.

And you, Frau Schön, how are you?

Madeline Schön:

Actually very good - even if I regret that I will probably not be there on the opening day of the new indoor pool.

The reason for this is a beautiful one: I'm going to be mom.

But I'll definitely come as a guest to see how a mother-child team can get along here.
