Finally playing theater again - to make this possible, the Volksbühne Olching is now breaking new ground.

Olching

- For the first time the amateur theater will perform a play in the open air.

Six performances are planned for July and early August, in a cozy atmosphere in Gut Graßlfing's beer garden.

After the curtain had not been raised once at the usual venue of the Volksbühne - the hall of the Cantina restaurant - for over a year due to corona, the board of directors considered alternatives.

“We asked ourselves: why don't we play outside?” Says chairman Andreas Popovits.

Around Christmas, the members were approached with the idea.

A majority gave the green light.

The stage was specially made

The vote was necessary because the project incurs a lot of costs in advance.

In order to be able to guarantee the necessary distances between the spectators, the beer tables and benches in the courtyard of Gut Graßlfing will be replaced by tables and chairs for two.

The Volksbühne has acquired 100 tables and 200 chairs for this purpose.

The stage is also specially made. “It wasn't possible to borrow, because then you wouldn't have been allowed to attach backdrops,” explains Popovits. He and his son Michael, Andreas Fischer and Eric Giersdorfer have been building the stage since February. A fan of amateur theater provided them with the courtyard of his carpenter's workshop and the necessary tools. Fortunately, Michael Popovits is also a carpenter - with the help of his know-how, a wooden construction was created from numbered individual parts that can be dismantled and reassembled like a puzzle at the venue.

The comedy "Verhexte Hex" by Ralph Wallner is played.

Long before the Corona easing allowed face-to-face rehearsals again, the actors were cramming their texts at home.

Since the end of May we have been practicing together at high pressure under the direction of Ingrid Schediwy.

"It's easier than usual because we've already read the text," says Popovits.

Volksbühne celebrates its 95th birthday

Headsets and microphones should be used in front of an audience so that there are no acoustic problems. So a lot of work, but Andreas Popovits is very happy “that something is working again”. The longer the break lasted, the more difficult it was to rekindle motivation in your own ranks. And this year in particular, in which the Volksbühne is celebrating its 95th anniversary, must not pass by without a sound. Should it be necessary again, a corona test station will also be set up on site, the chairman announced. "We have already organized that."

Popovits is confident that everything will work out fine.

“Now the only thing that can really thwart our plans is the weather.” In order to be able to play in the rain, one had originally thought about an open tent, which turned out to be far too expensive.

So one hopes for a long overdue, stable high, has ponchos ready for the audience as a precaution - and has set two alternative dates just in case.

Events

The Volksbühne Olching shows the play "Verhexte Hex" on July 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31 and on August 1 in the courtyard of Gut Graßlfing.

Alternative dates are August 5th and 6th.
