The political scientist Adolfo Cerqueda Rebollo of the coalition made up of the Labor Party, Morena and Nueva Alianza, would have won the election for mayor of Nezahualcóyotl, in the State of Mexico, according to preliminary data from the authorities.
Cerqueda Rebollo's triumph would be just the second time that a gay politician has reached the post of mayor in Mexico, after Benjamin Medrano, who won the municipal presidency of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, in 2013.
