From Thursday, the digital vaccination pass should be possible via the Corona warning app and the new CovPass app.

The most important questions and answers.

Munich - As of Monday, it should be possible to issue electronic vaccination certificates retrospectively in many pharmacies.

And since yesterday, fully vaccinated people have been able to save their vaccination status in the latest version of the Corona warning app.

But some questions are still open.

What is the digital vaccination certificate and what can it be used for?

With the digital vaccination certificate, travelers in the EU should be able to prove vaccinations, tests and survived infections across borders - either digitally on the smartphone or with a QR code on paper.

For this purpose, the countries should make the necessary information available via a so-called gateway.

In addition to information about vaccinations, the digital document should also contain information about tests or survived corona infections.

The extent to which the digital vaccination certificate is also used at national level is left to the individual EU countries.

The federal government recently said: Once the evidence is available, it will probably also be used in everyday life at home.

How quickly can the digital vaccination card be used?

Technically, the EU gateway is already working.

Across Europe, however, the electronic platform for checking vaccination certificates is not due to go live until July 1st.

Countries that are ready to go can start earlier.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) spoke at the federal press conference today on how to proceed in Germany.

A Commission spokesman said the EU vaccination certificate is already being issued in eight other member states.

In addition to Germany, these are Bulgaria, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and the Czech Republic.

How do you get a vaccination certificate in Bavaria?

Anyone who is vaccinated against corona in a Bavarian vaccination center usually receives, in addition to the stamp in the vaccination booklet, proof on paper on which there is also a QR code. According to the Bavarian Ministry of Health, you already have a valid digital vaccination certificate in your hands. Accordingly, you could read this QR code in the CovPass app or in the Corona warning app in order to use the certificate on your smartphone, the Bavarian ministry said yesterday when asked. Test attempts by our newspaper to read the QR code into the Corona warning app, however, were unsuccessful. An expert familiar with the project assumes that the QR code may first have to be read into the CovPass app, which is currently being rolled out by the federal government. Only the new QR code generated in it could also be recognized by the Corona warning app.The ministry could no longer be reached yesterday for queries.

From Monday there should also be the possibility of having the proof issued in pharmacies.

It should be possible to see which pharmacies are offering this in the coming days at www.mein-apothekenmanager.de.

The Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians was not able to answer yesterday when medical practices would also issue digital vaccination certificates.

In Bavaria, too, solutions for the transmission of digital evidence are still being worked on, according to the ministry.

What if you lose your smartphone or certificate?

There is no central vaccination register.

Certificates stored in an app are only saved on a smartphone.

Digital vaccination records of children or partners can also be saved together on a smartphone.

However, if you lose it, you have to read your QR code into the app again.

It is therefore advisable to store it safely.

"Like all important documents, like the yellow vaccination certificate, you should keep the digital vaccination certificate carefully," says the Bavarian ministry spokesman.

However, a procedure for subsequent download is planned.

And the yellow vaccination booklet still applies.
