BRUSSELS - Data on the epidemic are

decreasing across the EU but we are far from immunity and mass events

, such as those linked to the European football championships, could trigger new infections if not accompanied by mitigation measures. This is what we read in the latest

report on Covid risk assessment by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Ecdc)

. The emergency and the spread of variants require strong surveillance measures, recalls the ECDC, in particular for non-EU travel.

"A large part of the population across Europe still remains vulnerable to the virus", write the EU experts, underlining that as of June 3, 46.2% of the adult population had received at least one dose of the vaccine and 22.3% the entire cycle. The highest level of vaccine absorption was observed among the elderly over 80 years of age. As for the restrictive measures, the ECDC recommends that countries with a favorable epidemiological situation consider their elimination "only after a careful assessment of the local situation".
