The European Football Championship starts on Friday.

There is still no trace of fan euphoria.

We asked around anyway: Where is it possible to watch football together in the Munich district?

District

- The German team will also start next Tuesday: The kick-off against world champions France will be at 9 pm - "at home" in the Allianz Arena.

Fans who do not own one of the 14,000 tickets will have to look for alternatives.

There is no big public viewing this year like in previous tournaments, for example in the Olympic Stadium.

All that remains is the television at home - or going to the beer garden.

However, some restaurants show the football broadcast the red card - due to low demand or complicated hygiene rules.

Other hosts, on the other hand, are already looking forward to the start of the EM.

EM 2020: Corona public viewing in the Munich district - many reservations in the Waldgasthof Buchenhain

In the Waldgasthof Buchenhain in Baierbrunn, the list is already in place: “We have already received a lot of reservations for Tuesday,” says employee Birgit Simon.

When the weather is good, the Germany Games run on a screen in the beer garden.

When it rains, there are large screens available inside.

Around 150 football fans can be seated in the outdoor area, spread over 25 tables.

“The distance rules must be adhered to,” emphasizes Simon.

She advises reserving a table before the games.

Mask requirement, disinfection requirement, minimum distances and disposable menus: In Buchenhain, people are well prepared for watching football in a pandemic-compliant manner, says Simon.

Simon Angermair from the Mühlenpark beer garden in Garching is “totally” looking forward to the European Championship.

The landlord has set up a large screen in his beer garden.

There he only broadcasts Germany games.

“I'm a big soccer fan,” he says.

His mood is now rising, his host's heart is also rising: Angermair thinks that the EM could be a savior for the restaurants.

“People were always at home now,” he says.

Now they would want to go out and watch football games together.

Many guests have asked for seats, but fans cannot make reservations.

“First come, first served,” says Angermair.

Public viewing for EM 2020: Beer garden in Unterhaching broadcasts games on canvas and screens - many corona restrictions

The “Waldeslust” beer garden in Unterhaching also broadcasts “all the top games” on canvases and screens.

Owner Holger Müller is looking forward to the soccer competition.

Tom Kriegenherdt experienced the days before the European Championship in a completely different way.

"At the moment there is hardly any demand for it," says the forest manager in Großhesselohe.

He only received two inquiries, although the "Wawi" offers space for 3000 guests.

The restaurateur therefore decided against broadcasting games in the restaurant for the time being.

In addition, there are too many restrictions, says Kriegenherdt.

“The guest groups shouldn't be that big,” he says.

He has to offer the games indoors even in bad weather.

It's not fun at the moment.

Public viewing in times of Corona: "Public broadcasting events" are prohibited

In principle, public viewing is permitted in restaurants.

"However, the character of the gastronomy must be clearly preserved and be in the foreground," a spokeswoman for the Munich District Office announced when asked.

A conversion of the beer garden into an area with only beer benches would therefore not be allowed.

Means: transmission yes, but only with a snack board and beer.

"Public broadcasting events" are prohibited because public viewing is not a cultural event, according to the district administration.

For some football fans, this definition of culture is arguable, but that's just the rules of the “referees” in the State Chancellery.

Those who prefer to stay at home with these prospects can do so - and invite nine friends to join in the excitement.

Ten people from any number of households are currently allowed to come together.

Children under 14 years of age, fully vaccinated persons and genesis are not included.

The rules could mean that the domestic soccer arenas in the county get crowded.

A maximum of 50 people inside or 100 people outside: This corona rule also applies to the upcoming certificate awards.

Two Green politicians from the Munich district criticize this regulation.
