Little interest: only a few landlords in the Ebersberg district want to offer public viewing

In the district of Ebersberg, the demand for public viewing at this year's European Football Championship is very low.

Many innkeepers are therefore not broadcasting the games this year.

County - A big screen in the middle. Outside, the audience cheered passionately. From all sides you can hear a loud groan when the ball misses and a loud cheer when a goal is scored. But the joint public viewing this year seems to meet with less interest than in previous years. Because only a few restaurants in the district offer public viewing in the classic sense at the beginning of the European Football Championship.

For example, Elisabeth Schwaiger, deputy manager of the hotel café of the same name in Glonn, explains that nothing is currently planned in this direction.

“First of all, we'll see if people come at all,” she explains, since guests have only been able to sit indoors again since Monday.

She believes that interest in the sport has generally waned: "Corona has made football lose its status," says Schwaiger.

If there is a huge demand for the games spontaneously, they can still react spontaneously.

Public viewing in Ebersberg: emotions and hygiene measures at EM games are difficult to reconcile

The same is true of the Kugleralm in Ebersberg. Owner Korbinian Kugler explains that the idea of public viewing was definitely there. But: "It's hard to sit still, with all the emotions that come up," says Kugler. And that is currently the prerequisite, together with fixed seats, seat reservations and distance rules. Therefore, the Kugleralm decided against it. The games would already be shown on TV, but not actively called for public viewing.

The Weissenfelder restaurant in Vaterstetten is also based on this concept.

According to the restaurant manager Christian Vogelsang, the interest in soccer games has already decreased more and more in the previous years.

At least that's what he observed: "There are still a few more isolated ones, but most of them tend to watch the games at home this year," he says.

Public viewing in Ebersberg: pubs continue to rely on mutual cheering

The ones that are still trying to get a proper public viewing off the ground are the pubs. René Tiefnig from the Oldies Bar in Poing explains that he is already inside and outside in the initial preparations: "We are still puzzling whether we can use the screen outside or just the television, but there is sure to be public viewing", he says. The football experience is better among people than at home alone.

Ingrid Fraunberger from the Sound Café in Markt Schwaben is also hoping for this.

There is a screen inside and a television outside, depending on the weather.

“I show all the games if possible,” she says.

She is sure that the corona pandemic has had a major impact on her guests: “The audience is no longer what it used to be.

It doesn't go out that often anymore and it's used to staying at home, ”says Fraunberger.

She hopes that will change in the near future.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Ebersberg newsletter.
