The college level building at the school center is again owned by the city and used by the middle school.
Seven classrooms were prepared there, the building now serves as an interim solution until after the renovation of the middle school.
The funding for the facade there is not lost, but is put into the roof.

In January, the college level building fell back into the ownership of the city. And, as announced at the end of 2020, it had now been quickly prepared so that it can be used by the middle school. To call the restoration of the seven classrooms “complete renovation” is a bit too exaggerated, explains Till Penski from the municipal building authority, “but we got the best out of it”.
The most important thing was to connect the college level building with the middle school building by means of empty pipe trenches and cable ducts for IT and electricity.
The painter is through the building once, panels have been rebuilt and toilets have been replaced.
“There were a lot of little things that had been in trouble for a long time,” summarizes Penski, after all, the building should actually have been torn down as soon as it is no longer needed by the high school.
Interim solution for a longer period
With the decision to only plan the renovation of the middle school because of the tight coffers, but not yet tackle it (we reported) it was clear that the college level building was needed as an interim solution, and that over a longer period of time. The planning for the first construction phase of the middle school has been completed and, according to Penski, is now being submitted for building permit - "This sets a time frame for the start of construction", one hopes that we can be so far in the next two, three, four years - depending on the financial situation of the city.
The college level building with a building permit from 1960 was originally part of the primary school at that time.
The current repair cost around 140,000 euros, and according to the municipal building department, further work is planned for the summer holidays.
Possibly part of the facade on the east side should be tackled this year.
The first work on the old building should follow in the coming year
The first work on the old building of the middle school is to be done in the coming year, namely the roof renovation section. In consultation with the government of Upper Bavaria, a funding program that was actually intended for the renewal of the facade is being converted, "the only meaningful renovation that can then remain as it is for the general renovation," says Penski. The roof is partially leaky and there are problems with excessive snow loads. The approximate costs for the roof renovation are probably around 1.6 million euros. “That makes sense and is economical”, is the assessment of the city building authority, but there are already “frictional losses”. For example, a scaffolding has to be erected twice, not just once. A total of 24 classrooms for around 500 students are planned for the middle school.
Of course, nobody in the middle school is excited about the fact that the renovation is still going on, "but at the end of the day someone has to pay for it," says Frank Pfaffenberger, head of the middle school, with some understanding.
The city is very aware of the need for the renovation and has now done a lot - in IT, for example, they are well equipped.
According to Pfaffenberger, the college level building creates air especially for the four all-day classes.
The students now not only have their regular classroom, but also a second room that can be used for work in smaller groups or for the lunch break.
School counseling also benefits from the additional space
School psychology and school counseling have now also moved into their premises in the former college level building.
The school advisory service is not only responsible for the Schongau Middle School, but also for schools in the area.
The safety of the students is also guaranteed, because this part of the middle school is also equipped with an intercom plus camera so that only those who have lost something there can enter the building.
Till Penski also gives a small preview of what is still going to be done at the school center this year: The old block C of the elementary school is being torn down and the break area is being prepared for the middle school.
"The school yard should now be usable again for a few years."
