A retired nun, a former head of a Catholic college in Southern California, has agreed to plead guilty to embezzling more than $ 835,000 from the school to fund her casino gambling and other expenses, according to the US attorney general's office. USA.

Mary Margaret Kreuper, 79, accepted the plea deal Tuesday on wire fraud and money laundering charges.

He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison, according to a press release from the prosecutor's office.

Authorities say Kreuper embezzled funds from St. James Catholic School in Torrance for 10 years, where she served as principal for 28 years.

The nun diverted money from tuition payments and donations to accounts to "pay for expenses that the order would not have approved, let alone paid, including large gambling expenses incurred at casinos and certain credit card charges," according to the court document.

He also says that he forged financial documents to cover up his scheme and that he ordered school employees to alter or destroy financial records during an audit.

She will be tried on July 1 in federal court.
