The AfD member Harald Weyel failed again in the election for Vice President of the Bundestag.

On Thursday, 531 parliamentarians voted no, 101 voted yes.

Twice he had already missed the necessary majority.

Before him, five other AfD MPs had already failed in this election period in their attempt to become deputy to Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU).

The parliamentarians often stated that they did not want to be represented externally by the AfD in this office.

The President is the second man in the state after the Federal President - and thus one of the highest representatives of the country.

The AfD wants to insist in the next Bundestag to get the post of Vice President.

Your parliamentary group would "maintain its right to the office of Vice-President of the Bundestag," said chairwoman Alice Weidel

According to the rules of procedure, each parliamentary group in the Bundestag may be represented on the Presidium by at least one vice-president.

"There is no legal entitlement," Schäuble had already said two years ago.

Schäuble reads the rules of procedure that there is only an "agreement" that each parliamentary group can propose a candidate.

Then the following applies: "Only those who receive the votes of the majority of the members of the Bundestag in a secret ballot will become Vice-President." And whoever does not get them will not become Vice President.
