The film "Ausgriss'n - in der Lederhosn nach Las Vegas" ran successfully in selected cinemas last year.

Now there was an award for the extraordinary road movie: The Greilinger Markus J. Schindler received the German Arri camera award in the category “youngsters”.

Bad Tölz - The award was presented to Markus J. Schindler in the Tölz Capitol Cinema by the actress Elena Uhlig.

The 31-year-old chose the location for the honor himself.

In his youth he spent a lot of time in the cinema, which was already steeped in tradition at the time, and today still appreciates the nostalgic flair and, above all, the cinema's selection of films.

Normally he would have been awarded the prize at a gala, but different rules apply in Corona times.

With the Zündapp mopeds to Las Vegas

"Ausgriss'n" premiered in August 2020. The film tells of the crazy journey of the brothers Julian and Thomas Wittmann from the Erdinger area, who had set their minds on two old Zündapp mopeds from Bavaria to Las Vegas drive.

Markus J. Schindler was there as a cameraman, and the Board of Trustees was enthusiastic about his work.

“He succeeds in both staging the general plot with skilful color and lighting design and in providing the documentary parts of the film with a consistent design.

His camera always remains appreciative, curious and loving towards the protagonists, ”says the reason for the decision.

Greilinger worked for industry giants such as Markus H. Rosenmüller and Joseph Vilsmaier

It was the first long film that Schindler made. Prior to that, he worked for camera rental company Lemac Film & Digital in Sydney, Australia. Then he worked in Germany as a camera assistant in a large number of productions. He worked for well-known industry giants such as Markus H. Rosenmüller, Edgar Reitz, Gernot Roll and Joseph Vilsmaier.

For three months, from August to November 2018, he and his two-man team accompanied the Wittmann brothers over about 12,000 kilometers across the USA in the “oldest and cheapest German motorhome” that they had to have specially shipped to America.

The mopeds that would otherwise not have passed through customs were stored in the motorhome for shipping - just one of the many anecdotes.

“We didn't have a script, nothing had been researched, there was just a plan to get from A to B - from New York to Las Vegas,” says Schindler.

“What happened to us on the way just happened.” The Bavarian lads remained authentic throughout, nothing was asked.

"Julian and Thomas wore their lederhosen every day and they camped, whatever the weather."

Gun freaks, dropouts and the Hell's Angels

The team left the highways and experienced one or two adventures on their tour.

“The most bizarre thing was an encounter with the“ Hells Angels ”, they were really tough guys who told us they were on the run,” reports Schindler.

“That was really true, as we found out later.” Nevertheless, the men dutifully helped repair a moped tire - and the Greilinger remembered them as “really nice”.

But the Greilinger can also report about gun freaks, dropouts, hurricanes and breakdowns on Route 66.

“We just got involved with certain things.

The people in America are very open to things like that and have always been there with enthusiasm. ”During the tour, the small team that created the film as an absolutely low-budget project with a number of domestic sponsors only grew together.

“Even if you imagine it to be much funnier and more relaxed, of course,” says Schindler.

Because: "It was a lot of work, we shot all day."

500 hours of film material have come together

A total of 500 hours of film material had to be viewed, sorted and processed afterwards.

That took another year.

There was also a scenic framework that takes place in a Bavarian tavern and in which several Bavarian television and stage greats participated: Monika Gruber, Werner Rom, Winfried Frey and Roland Hefter, to name a few.

What began as a wild idea in the heads of the protagonists has "grown insanely", as Schindler calls it.

He says: “We are proud that it actually turned into a movie.” In a new project, the 31-year-old and the Wittmann brothers want to accompany the 81-year-old circumnavigator Wolfgang Clemens on one of his trips.

The

film can currently
