The farmers of Daraa governorate continue to harvest the rain-fed wheat crop in several areas of the governorate, amid the availability of sufficient numbers of combines.
SANA’s camera toured a number of wheat fields in the northern countryside of the governorate in the lands of the town of Abta’, where Osama Ismail, the owner of one of the fields, stated that he is optimistic about this season that it will be abundant despite the lack of rain, pointing out that this land was not cultivated before 2018, but the farmers were able in 2019 from planting their first wheat crop after years of interruption.
The Assistant Director of Daraa Agriculture, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, explained that the area planted with rainfed wheat for this season in the governorate is about 76,200 hectares, while the irrigated area is 10,500 hectares, pointing out that the Directorate of Agriculture submitted a certificate of origin to facilitate the process of receiving wheat, indicating at the same time that it is working to provide diesel Harvest operations according to availability.
Al-Hashish added: The lack of rain in the months of December, January, March and April caused a decline in the estimates of the wheat crop. Nevertheless, everyone is optimistic about the harvest season for this year.
It is noteworthy that receiving the grain began on the 20th of last month, amid easy procedures and remunerative prices for wheat and barley.
