5 defendants: Guo Junming (23 years old, chef), Luo Weidong (31 years old, unemployed), Yao Junhui (34 years old, teacher), Ding Peiji (26 years old) and Cai Runting (24 years old, waiter).

The third defendant, Yao Junhui, was also involved in possession of a pair of scissors and 7 packs of rubber straps for illegal use.

I want to see the excitement before leaving

The first defendant Guo Junming defended himself after the judge ruled that the evidence was established.

He said that after having dinner with a friend in a restaurant near Tsim Sha Tsui that night, he learned that the MTR station would be closed and the bus would be diverted. Therefore, he had to walk to Mong Kok with his friend and take a minibus back to the apartment in Tuen Mun.

When the two walked to the junction of Shanghai Street and Beihai Street, they found many people gathered. He wanted to watch the excitement before leaving, but his friend "don't want to go ahead," so he stayed there and waited for him.

He denied that he was supporting or encouraging the protesters at the time.

Feeling beaten and kicked with a truncheon

Later, someone suddenly handed him a helmet, pig mouth, and eye mask. Although he was shocked, he thought "I have no reason to wear it," and thought he could protect himself, so he accepted the items.

Soon after putting on the equipment, the people around him began to run away, so he also started to run away, but was hit by an impulse and fell to the ground, and then felt beaten and kicked by a truncheon.
