Tehran-Sana
Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, announced his country's restoration of its right to vote in the international organization after paying its dues.
"The illegal US embargo has not only deprived our people of medicine, but also prevented Iran from paying the arrears to the United Nations," Iran's Fars news agency quoted Takht Raunji as saying in a tweet today.
Takht Raunji explained that "after more than 6 months of work, the United Nations announced today that it had received the arrears," adding that "inhumane types of embargoes must be lifted."
The Central Bank of Iran had announced earlier that it had paid the Iranian government's membership fees in the United Nations, amounting to more than $16 million in frozen Iranian financial assets.
