The 2020 annual result of the Freising Clinic was moderate at minus 1.58 million euros.
However, there were declines due to Corona in almost all areas.
Freising - In the district council, where managing director Maren Kreuzer presented the clinic's 2020 annual financial statements, everyone was anxious to praise each other.
For 2021, however, a negative annual result is expected again.
Corona-related
declines were recorded in almost all areas compared to 2019, according to Kreuzer at the special meeting of the district council, in which the clinic was also not publicly discussed.
The number of inpatients admitted fell by 5304 (28.2 percent) to 13 573, 5823 fewer patients (29 percent) were treated as outpatients.
The payment
In the emergency department, 3785 fewer patients were registered as inpatients than in 2019 (a decrease of 37.5 percent), while outpatient care in the emergency department was 1909 fewer (minus 11.5 percent).
Lower numbers were also recorded in psychosomatic medicine, palliative medicine and births, for example.
The number of inpatient operations fell by 10.1 percent to 4125, and in outpatient operations by 34.9 percent to 925. However, what rose in the past year was the average length of stay in the clinic - from 4.9 to 5.3 days .
Reason: the corona-related intensive cases.
The statistics
The clinic's occupancy was 57 percent in 2020, compared to 74.4 percent the year before, according to other statistics presented by Kreuzer.
But because the case mix index rose at the same time due to the more severe cases, the clinic was able to earn 76.8 million euros in income from the operational area - 6.8 million more than in 2019. Of course: almost five million euros more was needed for the staff output.
Reasons: the increased number of employees, the large-scale allowance decided by the district council, wage increases and special corona allowances.
Kreuzer also had the first numbers for January to May 2021 with him: The hospital's occupancy rate rose again to 63.9 percent in the first five months.
And also with the births (in the first five months there were 409) a "very positive" trend upwards can be noted.
Prognosis
Nevertheless, Kreuzer was cautious about the forecast for 2021: Because a “fourth wave” of the corona pandemic is expected in autumn, she does not believe that the year 2021 will have a deficit of less than two million euros could complete.
District Administrator Helmut Petz was full of praise for the clinic: The task force that developed measures for the future viability of the clinic had done an excellent job, a medical strategy had been developed, the operational area would be improved and the cooperation with Rechts der Isar expanded .
The outlook
The first successes have already been achieved.
There is a “spirit of optimism” at the clinic, where “ideas are just bubbling up”.
Manuel Mück (CSU), who is a member of the supervisory board of Klinikum Freising GmbH, also praised the fact that the task force “stepped on the gas”.
The medical director Markus Neumaier also followed Petz's request to comment on the situation: Corona was "a stress test" for the hospital, which also showed some deficiencies.
But he now sees "clear progress for the Freising Clinic".
