McDonald's is the latest high-profile company to be affected by a data hack, which would have led to the exposure of private information from customers and employees in South Korea and Taiwan.
The hamburger chain said in a statement Friday that an investigation revealed that a "small number of files" were accessed.
He highlighted that some had personal data.
McDonald's is reaching out to affected customers and regulators in the two areas and said the payment information was not accessed.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, said a data breach also affected its operations in the United States.
The data accessed allegedly included restaurant information but not "sensitive or personal" customer or employee data.
McDonald's highlighted its "substantial investments" in its cybersecurity measures to find this violation.

"These tools allowed us to quickly identify and contain recent unauthorized activity on our network," a spokesperson told CNN Business.
"A thorough investigation was carried out and we are working with experienced third parties to support this investigation."

In the future, McDonald's will "build on the findings" of this research and further improve its security measures.
Other well-known companies have been attacked by hackers and have led to data hacking.
On Thursday, video game maker Electronics Arts said hackers broke into its systems and took the source code used in its games.
JBS USA, a meatpacking company, and Colonial Pipeline have also been affected by similar attacks.
