Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko warned of the "dangerous consequences" of the confrontational approach of Western countries towards Russia.
The TASS news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that Grushko, during his meeting yesterday with the Director of Political Affairs at the German Foreign Ministry, Jens Ploetner, warned of the dangerous consequences of Western policies based on adversarial and confrontational relations with Russia, and at the same time expressed Moscow's readiness to build beneficial relations. Reciprocal relations with European countries, including within the framework of multilateral regional platforms.
Grushko stressed, according to the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, that relations between the two sides should be built on the foundations of the principles of equality and mutual respect, taking into account the common interests of both parties.
Grushko had recently confirmed that relations between Russia and the European Union had reached the "zero" point and that the current situation contradicted the interests of the Europeans themselves.
In turn, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, stressed that the European Union is increasingly adopting a destructive approach to relations with Russia and unilaterally instead of joint work to search for compromises, settlements and constructive relations with partners in the General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
During a Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations yesterday, Polyansky said that unilateral sanctions that contradict international law can be considered an example of this destructive approach, while Russia wants to work and cooperate with the European Union, but this must be built on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
