Lugansk-Sana
The authorities of the self-declared Lugansk People's Republic announced today that five of its soldiers were shot dead by Ukrainian government forces during a "sabotage operation targeting a checkpoint of the People's Police".
The Russia Today website quoted the People's Police of the republic located in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine as saying in a statement: "A subversive group of the Special Operations Center (Zabad) killed five members of the People's Defense Forces during an attack on a checkpoint of the People's Police in the town of Golubovskoye in the Lugansk People's Republic."
The statement added, "The aim of this provocative operation is to cause fire in response by the People's Police units, in order to later accuse them of violating the Minsk agreements and intensifying hostilities."
The Donbass region in eastern Ukraine has been witnessing a military-political crisis since 2014 against the backdrop of a change of authority in the capital, Kiev, as a result of widespread protests in which Western-backed forces in this country have actively participated.
