Every year, June 20th is "World Refugee Day." In the past year, refugees have been displaced and suffered from epidemics and international conflicts.

Even if the epidemic eases and the war subsides, they still have to face the difficulties of finding shelter, healing their wounds, and rebuilding their homes, and wait for a new start.

The UNHCR "14th Charity Refugee Film Festival" officially opened this month. This year, four ingenious and award-winning films were specially selected. As many as 80 million refugees were displaced last year

According to statistics from the UN Refugee Agency last year, more than 80 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes. The epidemic and war undoubtedly made the situation of refugees and displaced persons worse. Therefore, the proceeds of this film festival will be used to heal the war and the legacy of the epidemic. The scars of the refugees rebuild the future for refugees and displaced persons.

The theme of this year's "World Refugee Day" is "Community". It encourages the public to learn about the stories of refugees and displaced persons from various countries, and walk with refugees. Therefore, the selection of this year's film festival is also determined to break the gap between "refugees" and "refugee films". Stereotypes broaden the imagination of "community".

The four films no longer focus on the plight of refugees as in the past. Instead, they use the lens to show their self-improvement, working hard to heal wounds, integrate into society, pursue dreams and dazzling lives.

Movies include: "The Challenge of A Persevering Athlete to Survive in the Raging Sea"-"Crossing the Furious Sea", "The Underground Rescue Team of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds"-"Secret Cave Hospital", "Multi-gender refugees embark on the road to find love and tolerance"-"Displace "American Gay Diary" and "Recovering Joy from Drama Healing Pain"-"Don't Be My Princess".

Among them, "Secret Cave Hospital" was nominated for the best documentary at the Academy Award. It tells how women broke the local patriarchal gender stereotype during the Syrian war. In a local underground hospital called "cave", they suffered because of the war. The besieged civilians provided medical services, demonstrating the inspiring courage, tenacity and solidarity of women.

Watch a movie to raise money for refugees

The festival expects to raise HK$200,000 in donations, which can provide basic medical services for 2,000 refugees who lack resources six days a week, including arranging nurses and ambulances on duty to bring emergency services to support the camps around the clock.

These medical services will solve the medical and health needs of refugee families and prevent the outbreak of the epidemic.

In addition, medical services will also be used to heal the physical and mental injuries suffered by refugees in the war, so that they can regain a new life as soon as possible.

In order to give back to the audience who supported the "Fourteenth Charity Refugee Film Festival", a documentary short film from the "Telling the Real Stories" series will be shown after each film is broadcast, showing more refugees and The real situation of the displaced.

The public can go to the designated webpage of the UNHCR Charity Refugee Film Festival www.unhcr.org/hk/film to donate to receive movie tickets.

During the film festival, ticket holders can log in to the platform to watch movies anytime, anywhere.
