The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced the registration of 85,149 new cases of the emerging coronavirus during the past 24 hours.
Reuters quoted the ministry as saying in a statement that 2,216 new deaths were recorded with “Covid 19”, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 17,296,118 cases since the start of the pandemic, while the official number of deaths rose to 484,235.
Brazil recorded the second largest death toll from the virus in the world after the United States and the third highest number of infections after the United States and India, and in recent weeks it has faced sharp increases for both indicators.
