The Tegernsee Valley will soon be closed due to overcrowding?

What could help so that it doesn't come to that was the topic of the Kreissparkasse's digital innovation forum.

Weissach

- “We finally have to get into the pots,” says District Administrator Olaf von Löwis.

Shortly beforehand, moderator Martin Weber, Protestant pastor in Tegernsee, got to the heart of what was also moving in the accompanying chat of the online discussion.

How could it be that the question of solutions to the major issues of traffic and living space has been getting the same answers for decades - without showing any success?

A sore point, as von Löwis admitted: "We have to step on the gas."

Day tourism on Tegernsee: Hotelier suggests vaporettos based on the Venice model

Rottach's mayor Christian Köck, hotelier Korbinian Kohler and Thomas Baumgartner as representatives of Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH sat with him on the podium of the Forum Innovation and Transformation (FIT) organized by the Kreissparkasse Miesbach-Tegernsee in the Bachmair Weissach.

It was Kohler's birthday and his heartfelt wish was entirely original.

As in Venice, vaporettos, i.e. water buses, could bring day trippers across the lake, Kohler said.

A fast Tegernsee-Express on rails is recommended to get there.

A signage system for the Tegernsee Valley would be quicker to install, according to Kohler, although the parking fees should rise sharply: "You can do that this summer."

Corona pandemic has exacerbated the situation with day trippers

Last summer, the pandemic exacerbated the already tense situation.

After the weekend rush, idyllic spots were actually left filthy, as a reaction, day trippers were greeted by signs with filthy inscriptions.

“Everyone was irritated,” said Löwis.

The situation should not be repeated: "We are a hospitable district."

Rottach's Mayor Köck sees it no differently.

Most of the day visitors would also know how to behave.

And not only have their numbers increased, he noted: "We have also grown more." Politicians must keep an eye on this development.

Hotel projects at Tegernsee: 1000 new rooms mean 1000 new employees

What can be expected in the Tegernsee valley for the next ten years, Kohler, who is constantly expanding his Bachmair-Weissach world, announced in a joint interview with Wiessee's mayor Robert Kühn. When all the hotel projects around the lake have been implemented, there will be 1,000 new or renovated rooms, which will create a need for 1,000 employees, Kohler calculated. People who need apartments, move around, have children. Local politicians have to react to this. Not sometime, but now.

Kohler's demand: New hotels may only be approved if the operator builds enough apartments for his employees.

“People should be able to go to work on foot.” In principle, he agrees with Kühn, although the mayor sees an obvious solution: Outdated guesthouses that are no longer operated as such could be converted into hotel rooms. Serving employees as a home.

Kühn and Kohler consider a clear concept for the entire Tegernsee Valley and cooperation between entrepreneurs and communities to be necessary.

At the Strüngmann Hotel on the lake promenade, the Wiesse lighthouse project, the staff house is of course part of it, explained Kühn: "You don't have to say something like that to a good entrepreneur."

Tegernsee: Digital offers for day trippers - know where there is free parking space

Cooperation is also in demand when it comes to visitor management and day tourism.

In the development of new concepts, there is now close cooperation across the entire Upper Bavaria area, explained von Löwis.

It is important to use the potential that digitization offers.

The day trippers should be able to check whether there are still parking spaces when they arrive.

State funding aid is needed for such offers.

Köck also wants handy concepts.

It's about profitability, but above all about sustainable tourism.

“We have a great responsibility there.”
