The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, received this Friday the first dose of the vaccine against covid-19.

The president was vaccinated in Guayaquil in the company of his wife, María de Lourdes Alcívar.

"According to the schedule, today is my vaccination date," Lasso, 65, wrote on Twitter.

“I invite all Ecuadorians to attend the vaccination;

so we can collaborate in the fight against the pandemic.

With responsibility for their own health, that of their families and that of the entire society, ”said the president from the vaccination site.

Until this Friday, Ecuador has reported 15,436 deaths from covid-19, 5,561 “probable” deaths from the virus and 437,121 confirmed cases.

The country has about 17 million inhabitants and, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, 2,788,245 people have been vaccinated with the two doses.
