Jogging in the mountains is an experience of nature - and exhausting.

Rainer Preuschl is an enthusiastic “trail runner”.

For his 50th birthday, he has set himself a special goal: He wants to jog up to 50 peaks - for a good cause.

Neuhaus -

Rainer Preuschl climbed his first peak at the age of 30. The native of Baden-Württemberg can no longer remember which mountain in the Allgäu it was. “But the air up there inspired me.” Since then, the mountains have never let go of him. “I got into mountain sports late, but all the more intensely.” Preuschl climbs, cycles, hikes. In the Leitzachtal section of the German Alpine Club, the father of a daughter leads a children's climbing group.

But his favorite thing to do is trail running - jogging on paths, over hill and dale, in snow and mud, uphill and downhill. Surefootedness is particularly important in the mountains. But it is precisely the concentration on every single step that has a relaxing effect. "For me this is a source of strength and inspiration," says Preuschl, who also runs marathons. Preuschl will be 50 years old in October. He doesn't just want to celebrate this with a barbecue party: He has made it into his head to jog on 50 peaks in the region in his anniversary year. An acquaintance had given him the idea. “He told me that he wanted to run 50 kilometers on the occasion of his 50th birthday. That was the trigger. "

At the same time, Preuschl wants to do something good with his run. He has therefore collected donations from regional companies. It is still unclear who will benefit from it: Preuschl wants to ask the evangelical pastors in Neuhaus, Ilka and Andreas Huber and deacon Alois Winderl from the Schliersee-Neuhaus parish association where there is a need. So far, the Lantenhammer distillery, the Essendorfer pleasure smelter, the wood-based material manufacturer Moralt and the management consultancy Institute for SME Success have donated a total of 2200 euros. In return, Preuschl wears her company logos on his running shirt. “There is still room for more donors,” says Preuschl with a wink.

Since January Preuschl has jogged to 15 peaks, including the Brecherspitz at 1685 meters and the Wendelstein at 1838 meters. If possible, he tries to combine several peaks on one tour. In four and a half hours he jogged a four-peak circuit with Stümpfling, Rosskopf, Rotkopf and Stolzenberg. On his agenda are among others the Trainsjoch, Großer Traithen and the Hintere Sonnwendjoch with 1986 meters. To get there, Preuschl takes the bike - he wants to keep the campaign CO2-neutral.

Before going on a tour, he informs himself about the weather situation and looks at maps. “The goal is only achieved if you get back down below without injuries,” says Preuschl. Since he tore his Achilles tendon while climbing the Ruchenkopf five years ago, he has known that mountain sports can be risky. “I'm not reckless, but rather with the necessary humility.” In his running backpack he always has a liter of water and a couple of muesli bars - “of the sweet, sticky kind”. In addition, rain and wind jacket, cell phone and emergency blanket. “So that I can keep warm in case something happens.” Preuschl jogs with sticks that offer stability in difficult terrain like the north ridge of the Aipelspitz. He uses spikes in snow. If it gets very steep, he switches from jogging to brisk walking.

Preuschl trains every other day.

Then the freelance trainer and coach jogs from Neuhaus to the Spitzingsattel and back during the lunch break.

He needs an hour for the ten-kilometer route with its 350 meters of altitude.

At the end of November, according to his plan, he wants to have reached the last of the 50 summits.

I wish you success!
