The strawberry initially struggled with the cool weather in the district.

But since the rise in temperatures, it can no longer be stopped.

The harvest can begin.

District - Fresh strawberries are a real treat in early summer. There are cultivation areas and local stalls in the district of Ebersberg. This year, the first ripening phase is a little later due to the long-lasting low temperatures. But the situation has currently improved. "In the last few days it has been shooting properly," says Johann Lang from Egmating, one of the large providers in the district. “From this weekend there will be a good offer.” The cold nights in April and May led to delays. But now it can start, says Johann Lang happily.

The situation is similar at the Schimpf Beerenhof in the northern district of Angelbrechting (municipality of Poing). In the past few days, the yield was not sufficient to open the sale.

“We'll try until the weekend,” it said on request.

"Certainly in the coming week, however." Further information is currently available on the Internet.

Strawberries in Ebersberg: The cheapest option is still to pick yourself

It's always about good quality, emphasizes Johann Lang.

He points out that the cheapest option for consumers is to pick the strawberries themselves in the designated fields.

But also at the stalls of the "good suppliers" there are fresh goods several times a day.

Harvest personnel are available.

“We have no problems there,” says Lang.

In other areas, too, nature is running late on the agricultural land this year.

“It's been too cold for too long.

Much has grown hesitantly, ”says Franz Lenz, district chairman of the farmers' association from Zorneding.

The corn in particular suffered badly.

It is now looking good and the potatoes are growing too.

Soy as a sun-loving plant, which can now be seen more in our country, would also develop well.

“Nothing stands in the way of cultivation.” However, the first cut on grassland is late.

On the other hand, the rain in the past few weeks has been good, especially for the forest.

Harvest in the district of Ebersberg: Expert sees positive trend for plant growth in 2021

Basically, Lenz is not someone who complains.

He definitely sees a positive trend for this year.

“Right now it's really fun to be outside and see how everything is growing.” But in view of long-term climate change, he also points out: “We have to learn to deal with the changes.”

However, it is still too early for a more precise forecast of this year's development, says Lenz.

You have to wait and see.

Plant diseases and fungi are still dangerous.

And severe thunderstorms could also affect or even destroy the yield.

Damp rainy weather good for forests in the county

However, there are clear winners of the cool and wet weather too.

"This spring was positive for the forest," says Christoph Schwer, managing director of the forest owners' association Ebersberg / Munich-East.

The rain made it possible to fill the water reservoirs in the ground.

“That could change,” says Schwer.

If there are longer periods of drought again, this is an impairment for the forest.

And despite the cool weather, the bark beetle, which is dangerous for the trees and is currently active, must be kept in view again.

“Controls are necessary.

We shouldn't fall into the trap. ”Despite all the developments, due to climate change we still have to think about forest conversion, said Schwer.
