The corona pandemic has hit many clubs quite hard - including SC Oberhummel.

And not only in terms of sport, but also socially and financially.

But the compulsory break also opens up new opportunities for those responsible.

Oberhummel

- In the FT interview, SCO chairwoman Sandra Jenuwein speaks about the difficult time of the Corona forced break and about planned innovations.

Ms. Jenuwein, how has the SCO fared in the corona pandemic?

In terms of sport, everyone suffered as a result - it was a very difficult year. The rules have constantly changed - it was not easy to keep track of who was allowed to do what and when. What was difficult not only for the football players, but also for the spectators: In the past few months we were only allowed to train - if at all - but not to play any games. It was also a difficult time socially - the games always have some spectators, including older ones. After all, everyone is now allowed to train again. In the gym, all courses that could be realized by the trainers took place online. Since the last easing, some courses have taken place live again - the rest remain in online hours. Since two school classes are currently being taught in the community hall in the village fountain, the gym in the sports center and possibly theDodged to the Stockschützenhalle - and also to the sports fields outside.

How have the online lessons been received?

At first everyone was skeptical - there are also a lot of older people attending the courses.

But then most of them were enthusiastic.

It wasn't videos, it was live broadcasts.

We have set ourselves a minimum of seven participants, and we have always achieved that.

There were also courses with 17 participants - such as yoga.

That was very well received.

It was interesting that the online lessons were well received by the over 30s - there was little interest among the very young generation.

We were very surprised.

Have you now returned to the face-to-face events?

Basically yes.

But of course you still have to keep clearances and bring your own mats.

In terms of gymnastics, only two trainers offer their lessons on site - the rest not yet due to corona.

How are the footballers doing?

The kids under 14 have been training again for some time - but there were also trainers there who did not hold the training due to the corona or to protect the children and themselves.

It was important to the SCO that everyone feels comfortable and can make their own decisions.

The big ones started this week and the first team has been training for three weeks.

There are no games yet, the season has been canceled.

Socially, it hit the sports club pretty hard too, right?

Total.

Last year we had to cancel our forest festival, which always attracts a lot of people.

We also wanted to inaugurate the new Waldbar - with a Waldbar Football Cup.

But that too had to fail.

The last event we were allowed to hold was the watt tournament in January last year - the pastoral office on December 27th took place in the church in Langenbach.

More was not possible.

Does that mean that important sources of income are also missing?

Absolutely!

The forest festival is always very important to us financially.

We're not a poor club - we're fine.

But still we saved where we could.

There were no major purchases in the past year - even if a few would have been necessary.

In return, we worked on the Waldfest site so that it didn't go to waste.

We repaired the huts and did small work - of course with a distance, mask and Co.

The forest festival area next to the sports field currently looks very devastated.

.

.

What happened to the many wooden tables and benches?

They were willfully destroyed - after we had our work assignment.

That should have been the end of August.

Fortunately, we had put away the table tops that we made in 2018 and 2019.

But everything else was destroyed.

We would be surprised if they were members or young people from the village, since everyone grew up with the SCO forest festival.

That would be a real shame, even if it happened for fun while drunk.

Broken glass was everywhere too.

It's a big disappointment for all the people who put their heart and soul into it.

And that was a lot of work.

What about the forest festival in general and the area in particular?

There is a lot to do on the site: The tables and huts have to be prepared again.

And we're trying to set up the forest bar.

Perhaps it will work out in autumn - depending on the situation - to catch up on the planned football tournament and thus the inauguration of the Waldbar.

Maybe we can also hold a beer garden weekend.

That for 10./11.

So there will be no classic forest festival planned for July - not even in a light version, right?

No, we decided against it.

Although 250 people are currently allowed outside, we believe that the distances and hygiene rules cannot be adhered to.

It's really difficult to handle.

That's why there is now the “Forest Festival to go”.

.

.

Exactly: on July 11th.

It will work in such a way that everyone has to order their food in advance.

And at fixed times - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. - as well as in designated streets, things can be picked up.

There will be fish on a stick, french fries, shashlik, grill plates and, brand new this year, roll roast with coleslaw and potato salad.

We also offer cakes.

On the other hand, there will be no drinks: we want to and must avoid people standing still.

Some helpers are also needed for this.

How will the SCO manage that?

We have already divided the teams in the huts - mainly according to a household.

We send everyone to the test site - regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or recovered.

And there is a cash register at every hut so that everything runs as easily as possible.

How will that be received by the people?

There are always a lot of older people at the forest festival.

We respect this task.

We know that the forest festival is extremely important to people.

I don't think the to-go form is as popular as the real forest festival.

But doing nothing would be no alternative.

The SCO is planning a vacation time for children and young people again this year: Can that even work under the given circumstances?

Definitely!

We went to Inzell during the summer vacation last year - with fewer children and not by bus, but in private cars.

And we didn't fully occupy the huts there, so all the rules could be followed.

There were some things in Inzell that we weren't allowed to do - for example go-karting - and some restrictions.

But despite everything, it was a great week for the children and the supervisors.

We have a lot of registrations this year too, but we expect people to cancel when the incidence rises again.

When will everything go back to normal at the SCO?

The online offers in the gymnastics area will still be available until the summer holidays.

For the stick shooters and the footballers, at least training is going back to normal.

I expect normal operations again after the summer vacation.

The corona pandemic was a good opportunity for many clubs to try something new: Is the SCO also breaking new ground?

Yes, we too are taking Corona as an occasion for a change.

There will be no youth and no adult Christmas parties this year.

We have come up with something new for this: We are planning a Christmas market / evening on December 18th.

Interest in the traditional Christmas party has decreased - and that's why we want to try something new.

We would like to set up stands in front of the Stockschützenhalle, a choir should sing and Nicholas should come.

The traditional character should remain - that is very important to us.

How will the members react to this?

I'm sure that won't go down well with everyone.

But we are two young board members and want to bring a breath of fresh air.

If that works well, it is also conceivable that all the clubs in Hummel could get something done together.

In any case, there is cohesion among the clubs.

By the way: The Christmas tree auction remains as usual - it is a sure-fire success.

However, we still have to clarify how this can be organized without a host.

What is your wish for the new season?

That normality will return!

That football games can take place again.

And the fact that the tests are no longer necessary - they are a financial burden for the club.

That people can meet again - for example at home games on Sunday afternoons.

That you can do sports, play football and move around with a clear conscience - just be together again.

People want to meet - and also be able to meet.

Social contacts are very important - both for the young and the elderly.
