The 14-month pandemic has put many families to a tough test.

The Youth and Family Office had a lot to do.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- Even before the Corona there was a lot that made life difficult for children and young people, from school problems to conflicts in the family to addiction. "The corona pandemic has exacerbated these problems in many families," explains Ulrich Reiner from the Office for Youth and Family. No daycare, no school, no friends, no sport, no club. "Especially when life is going on in a small apartment, the nerves quickly become bare," says Reiner.

Parents are often faced with the problem of getting a grip on everyday life.

Exactly then the SD is in demand.

It helps to organize everyday life.

"Providing practical support is our job," says Reiner.

The spectrum of help is wide: it ranges from parenting advice and support in the family to finding a foster family.

Usually it is the parents or children themselves who contact the youth welfare office.

But people from the surrounding area also got in touch if they were worried about a child.

“Before the corona pandemic, information often came from daycare centers and schools.

Now it is more often neighbors who notice when the well-being of children is at risk.

"It is important to keep your eyes open in everyday life and to keep your ears in your own environment on the receiving end," says Reiner.

In the past year, 385 reports of a child welfare risk were received in the district office.

119 were "serious, often acute cases," reports the head of office.

The main focus was on physical violence against children.

The youth welfare office regularly deals with suspected abuse and addictions in the parents.

Certainly there is also a false alarm sometimes.

"But we always prefer that to when too little is looked at," says Reiner.

In the Office for Youth and Family in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the focus is always on children and young people.

A key role for their well-being lies with father and mother.

"When it comes to the well-being of the children being endangered, one-on-one contact with parents is extremely important - regardless of whether there is a lockdown or not," says Reiner.

Often it is enough to protect the children by offering their parents specific help.

"Those who strengthen their parents often also protect their children," says Reiner.

In a nutshell: "strong parents, strong children."

If you need help, you can contact the youth welfare office directly, by phone at 0 80 41/50 54 59 or by email at ajf@lra-toelz.de.
