As of today, Austria and other countries are no longer a corona risk area

04.56 a.m.:

All of Austria and numerous other countries and regions are no longer considered to be corona risk areas as of Sunday.

The federal government also removed the remaining two Austrian federal states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg, popular travel destinations for Germans, from the risk list, as well as parts of Greece, Croatia and Switzerland.

The islands of Madeira in Portugal and Cyprus as well as twelve other countries in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Asia and North America are no longer considered risk areas, including the USA and Canada.

Anyone who comes to Germany by land from one of these areas will no longer have to observe any entry restrictions due to Corona in the future.

Air passengers still have to show a negative test.

However, the rules of other countries for entry from Germany remain unaffected.

Anyone entering Austria from Germany, for example, must still be able to show a negative corona test.

This does not apply to anyone who can prove a vaccination or who has already recovered from Corona.

Justice Minister Lambrecht calls for a review of the proportionality of the mask requirement

00.05 a.m.:

In view of the waning coronavirus pandemic, Federal Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht calls on the federal states to review the continuation of the mask requirement. The states would have to clarify "whether and where a mask requirement is still proportionate if the incidence numbers are low and continue to fall," said the SPD politician of "Bild am Sonntag". "This also applies to schools, because pupils are particularly affected by the mask requirement."

Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) called for a complete end to the mask requirement. »If the incidence is clearly below 35, the state may not restrict any basic rights for all citizens across the board. The general mask requirement would therefore have to be lifted with a strict interpretation of the Infection Protection Act, especially outside, "said Kubicki of the newspaper. The state governments must now change their ordinances quickly, otherwise they will soon be forced by the administrative courts. The state should rather set up an information campaign that explains how people in subways and crowds can protect themselves with masks, demanded Kubicki.

According to the decision of the Prime Minister's Conference in January, so-called surgical masks or FFP2 masks should be worn on public transport and when shopping.

The federal states are responsible for implementing the rule;

further regulations may apply regionally.
