United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stressed during their meeting in Britain today the need to commit to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and combating the Corona pandemic.
On the sidelines of the G7 summit, held in Carbs Bay, British Cornwall, Johnson and Guterres discussed plans to hold the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which Britain will host later this year, the British Prime Minister's office said in a statement.
The statement added that the two parties "agreed on the need for countries to intensify their efforts and take on ambitious commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and temporarily abandon the use of coal."
The statement stated that Johnson welcomed, during his meeting with Guterres, the decision of the World Health Assembly to discuss the development of a treaty on the readiness of the countries of the world to confront possible new pandemics after Corona later this year.
It is expected that the World Health Assembly will hold a special meeting next November to discuss the feasibility of developing the aforementioned treaty, after a decision in this regard taken by the participants in the 74th annual session of the Assembly, which was held in Geneva from May 24 to 31.
