Nine months after the fire in the Greek refugee camp Moria, a court sentenced four young Afghans to ten years in prison each.
The migrants were found guilty of deliberately setting fire to the camp on the island of Lesvos.
This is reported by the AFP news agency, citing the defenders.
According to dpa information, the accused immediately appealed - according to a report by the Greek state broadcasting company (ERT).
Due to the corona hygiene regulations, no journalists were allowed to attend the trial on the island of Chíos.
According to AFP information, the accused's lawyers denounced that their clients had not received a fair trial.
Three of the defendants were therefore not recognized as minors at the time of the incident, even though they had submitted relevant documents.
The Moria refugee camp on Lesbos was almost completely destroyed in the fire in September 2020, and around 12,000 people became homeless overnight.
The police identified six young people and men from Afghanistan as suspects - they are said to have started the fire to force their relocation to mainland Greece.
Two of them were sentenced to five years imprisonment under juvenile justice in March.
They too have appealed.
