Politicians hear the call for help: The Hochland youth settlement is allowed to open

The Hochland youth settlement in Königsdorf breathes a sigh of relief.

The youth education center can open again.

A few weeks ago it had looked very different.

Königsdorf - Since last Monday there has been a spirit of optimism in the Hochland youth settlement.

With the further relaxation in the framework concept for accommodation that has been in effect since then, the facility can "finally reopen", says operations manager Roland Herzog, relieved.

“And we do that now too.

We are currently planning our summer with great anticipation. "

Three weeks ago the disappointment at Rothmühle 1 in Königsdorf was still great. The framework concept for hotels and restaurants, which came into force on May 21, did not go far enough for Herzog and Robert Wenzelewski - he is responsible for education - to enable pandemic-compliant, but fairly regular operations. The two facility managers therefore started a call for help, wrote to the press and local politicians (we reported). Lo and behold: “We were heard,” says Herzog happily, and the euphoria can be seen in his voice. Representatives of all parties - CSU, Greens, SPD, Free Voters and Left - would have contacted him during the Whitsun holidays, the operations manager gratefully said, "to get a more detailed picture of our situation over the phone." A proof for Herzog, what high status the youth settlement and its educational work have in the region.

Herzog describes the operation this summer as follows: “Normal with a protection concept.” At tent camps, for example, the participants are only out and about in groups of ten. If groups mix or meet on the premises, it is of course compulsory to wear a mask. The youth education center will be "currently occupied on the weekends", "because schools are still reluctant to take class trips, even if the first school classes have already come to us for vocational orientation seminars". Therefore one is still a bit removed from normality.

On the weekends, however, the educational work starts again, including overnight stays - also with the first courses offered by the institution itself. “For example, next weekend we have a boat guide course and are out and about with students from the Catholic Foundation University. A photo seminar will take place the following weekend. ”This is the forecast for June. In July and the summer holidays, the offers would continue to increase, "so that we are also occupied again during the week, because in this case we are dealing with holiday groups". The holiday program will take place with a protection concept, "and we are looking forward to numerous registrations," emphasizes Robert Wenzelewski.

For many employees of the youth settlement, the opening means a cold start “from zero to one hundred” under the motto “sleeves up”, says Herzog, because they are returning from short-time work.

In addition, they are looking for temporary help in the kitchen for evenings, weekends “and also during the summer holidays as a vacation job.

Schoolchildren are also allowed to register. ”And the youth settlement will also be offering two apprenticeships from September: one as a cook and one in reception.
