Local, state and national officials react to the fifth anniversary of the June 2016 massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, when a gunman killed 49 people, mostly Latinos.

The Orange Avenue bar was a nightclub known for its drag shows and “Latin Nights” with bachata.

One of the few places where Latinos from the LGBTQ community could feel at home.

Pulse Nightclub owner Barbara Poma, who is now CEO of the OnePulse Foundation, said the problem of gun violence and hate has only gotten worse in recent years.

Poma told CNN that she had created Pulse Nightclub as a safe and happy space for the LGBTQ + community, a place where they could bring their parents.

She said the victims that night included parents who were there with their LGBTQ + children.
