The work of the sixth round of negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 4+1 group, which falls within the framework of the meetings of the Joint Committee of the nuclear agreement aimed at bringing the United States back to it and ensuring its full and effective implementation, began in the Austrian capital Vienna today.

Negotiations began on the 2nd of last April between the delegations of Iran and the Four Plus One Group, which includes France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China, and in the presence of an American delegation without directly participating in the negotiations aimed at returning Washington to the agreement and lifting its sanctions on Iran as a prelude to the latter's return to its obligations under it.

The Assistant Foreign Minister and head of the Iranian delegation to the negotiations, Abbas Araqchi, preceded his arrival in Vienna by describing US sanctions on Iran as economic terrorism and a crime against humanity.

Araqchi posted on his Twitter account, "Trump is gone, but his illegal sanctions are still in place, so there is no need for crocodile tears from some officials in the Biden administration, with the continued American efforts to impose suffering on 82 million Iranians."

Meanwhile, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, head of the Russian delegation, Mikhail Ulyanov, expressed his hope that this tour would be the last and that a specific understanding would be reached.

For his part, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas urged all parties to show flexibility in the negotiations, and said in a statement to Reuters: "It is about flexibility and pragmatism on all sides. Procrastination will never be in anyone's interest."

Although the current US administration headed by Joe Biden announced its desire to return to the nuclear agreement that was signed in 2015, it has not done so so far and is trying to blackmail Iran in other files, while Iran insists on the need for the United States to return to the agreement and lift sanctions before it returns to reducing Its obligations under the agreement also categorically refuses to conduct any new negotiations on it or link this matter to other files.

It is noteworthy that the previous US administration headed by Donald Trump unilaterally exited the nuclear agreement in 2018 and reintroduced sanctions against Iran in violation of its obligations under the agreement.
