The resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after 12 years was widely covered tonight (Sunday) around the world, after the dramatic day in the Knesset at the end of which he was sworn in as Naftali Bennett.

"Netanyahu lost his job for the first time in 12 years, paving the way for Naftali Bennett," read the New York Times home page, which described the outgoing prime minister as the most dominant politician of the last generation in Israel.

The Wall Street Journal reported that "12 years of Netanyahu's rule as Israel's leader are over, after his coalition rival Naftali Bennett won a vote of confidence in parliament."

The Washington Post reports that the Knesset has approved "a diverse coalition of governments, bringing to an end the tenure of Benjamin Netanyahu as the oldest leader."

Like other media in the world, the new prime minister, Bennett, was described as a far-right man who was part of the settlers' leadership and a former ally of Netanyahu.

End of period.

The French newspaper Le Monde wrote that the Knesset voted in favor of the "Coalition for Change", which heralds the "end of the Netanyahu era."

The BBC reports that "Netanyahu's 12-year grip on power is over."
