Police today (Sunday) evacuated residents from their homes in Mevaseret Zion following a fire that broke out near the settlement.

The evacuated homes are on the first line of fire in the Nof Harim neighborhood in the locality.

The evacuation was carried out due to the spread of the fire, which began as a burning of thorns, towards the living area.

The fire continues to spread, in part due to strong winds, and heavy smoke surrounds the area.

Eight crews are operating at the site, with the help of six firefighting planes, with ten more planes making their way to the area.

Two more teams from nearby counties are making their way to the arena.

Road 1 from the Hemed Interchange to the east was blocked to traffic following the fire.

Cops are on the scene directing traffic.

A conference area was opened near the Harel Mall.

Last week, large fires broke out in the Jerusalem mountains, spreading to three main centers - Ma'ale Hahamisha, the Tor Sinai farm area and the "Steph" area.

The fires also developed in the areas near the localities of Yad Hashmona, Nataf, Neve Ilan and Abu Ghosh.

It was suspected that they were caused by arson, partly because two hotspots were documented next to each other.

More than 70 fire crews are operating in the various combustion centers, with the help of ten firefighting planes, two helicopters and other means of observation.

At one point, due to the danger of the spread, the police forces evacuated residents of Ma'ale Hahamisha, and Netaf residents were instructed to stay in houses and not leave the settlement for fear of being caught in the fire.

Road 1 and Road 425, the only access road to Netaf, were also blocked.

The Har Adar-Ma'ale Hahamisha road is also blocked in both directions, and the Ma'ale Hahamisha industrial area is also evacuated.

Train traffic to Jerusalem was stopped for about two hours, and trains found on their way to the area were stopped at Ben Gurion Airport.
