A 1-month-old girl and her 2-year-old brother are hospitalized after their mother threw them out of a second-floor apartment window in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday.
Then she too jumped, according to a police report.
New York City Police said their officers went to a building on Rockaway Parkway around 11:24 am (local time) after receiving reports of serious injuries.

The woman jumped after throwing the older child.

The baby fell on her stomach and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The boy and the mother were also taken to a hospital.
His injuries are not life threatening.

It is not clear what caused the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses told local news outlets that the mother hit the baby's head repeatedly against the concrete after the fall.
Both the children and the woman were naked in the street.
Shandie Harrison, a neighbor, told the New York Daily News that she ran to the scene in a panic after hearing the screams of a child and a loud bang outside her home.
"We saw the newborn and we started screaming," Harrison said.
"There were three naked people on the floor: the mother, the newborn baby and another little boy."

The woman and her husband reported calling 911. They also noted that the mother showed signs of mental instability.
"I could see she was depressed
," Harrison said.
"I think he wanted to kill the baby, but he was not in his right mind."
The newspaper reported that other neighbors ran out with blankets to cover the children before firefighters and an ambulance arrived.
Neighbors said the baby was bleeding from one ear and the boy had bruises on his forehead and knee, but was not crying.
