It was not the first time that the monarch and Biden had seen each other. Their first meeting was in 1982, when he was a Democratic senator from Delaware. Although this time he did it as president.

The president, Joe Biden, and the first lady, Jill Biden, met this Sunday with Queen Elizabeth II of England at Windsor Castle, in the United Kingdom, and had tea.

Before their closed-door meeting, the president and the first lady were greeted with a military parade of the Guard of Honor who gave a royal salute and played the American national anthem.

Biden stood next to the queen in the sun, wearing his aviator sunglasses, before inspecting the troops in the ring at Windsor Castle, which was last seen on television during the funeral of her husband, the prince. Philip, who died at the age of 99 in April.

Since then, the queen has stoically continued her official duties.

The queen has greeted 13 of the last 14 US presidents in person, that is, everyone from Harry Truman to the present day, with the exception of Lyndon Johnson.

Four of them in this castle, as confirmed by the royal family on Twitter.

In his 2018 meeting with Donald Trump, the former president surprised the press and experts when he broke royal protocol by

walking in front of the queen,

sometimes blocking her view and turning his back on her.

The British royal family has had a turbulent year following the interview with the queen's grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

The couple accused royalty of racism and Markle also spoke publicly about how real life and pressure from the media affected her mental health.

At the G-7 summit, which ended this Sunday in the United Kingdom, the seven countries pledged to donate 1 billion vaccines to the countries that need them most.

The president also reiterated his commitment to donate half a million vaccines to other countries and urged them to compete with China.
