Knesset members will vote today (Sunday) on the identity of the new Speaker of the Knesset - MK Miki Levy Mish Atid. If there is no change, Levy will replace the current Speaker, MK Yariv Levin from the Likud and become the 24th Knesset Speaker. Levy was first elected to the 19th Knesset eight years ago and in one vote is expected to become the most powerful man in the Knesset.



The Speaker of the Knesset is considered in his position in terms of salary as equal to a minister in the government. He is entitled to employ three parliamentary assistants in addition to the head of the bureau and secretariat he receives from the Mishkan. The Speaker of the Knesset receives a surviving vehicle and a chauffeur, is entitled to security services on behalf of the state and may receive an apartment on behalf of the state in Jerusalem if he is not a resident of the city or its immediate vicinity.



Levy was born and raised in Jerusalem in 1951, and currently lives in Mevaseret.

Son of Maslih and Sarah who were Etzel fighters. Married to Nurit, father of 4 children and grandfather of 10 grandchildren. He lost his two brothers Ronen in a car accident, and Pini in a collision with a terrorist in the Baka. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Haifa University Derby.

Levy joined Yesh Atid after serving 24 years in the Israel Police in a variety of positions, including, Commander of the Judea and Samaria District and Commander of the Jerusalem District. He performed his duties in the Jerusalem district during the second intifada and in one of the attacks that took place on Jaffa Street, Levy suffered a heart attack, but did not seek medical treatment until the last of the wounded and dead were evacuated from the scene.



Levy is considered a prominent figure in a bad future, and is known as a diligent parliamentarian in the Knesset. He accumulated many screen hours on the Knesset channel in light of Pilbester, which lasted for long hours in the plenum. In 2013, he caused a stir after calling in an interview with Kol Barama radio for the ultra-Orthodox "parasites" but on the same day he apologized for it.
