Winfried Kretschmann sees the blame for the bumpy start of his party in the federal election campaign with the political opponent.
Since the Greens were now clearly striving for the leadership role in the federal government for the first time, the Union and the SPD had now declared them the main opponent.
"That is why they are doing everything they can - whether honest or not," said the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg in a recorded message to the delegates at a digital Green party conference.
The past few weeks would have shown that.
"Inaccuracies in Annalena's curriculum vitae are exaggerated, omissions in reporting income as federal chairwoman are declared a state affair and the number of amendments at our party congress is close to a vote of no confidence," said Kretschmann.
On social media, "a dangerous mix of facts and falsehoods is created," he added.
Even if some of these attacks are "shabby" and difficult to endure, this "outrage spectacle" shows above all: "It scares some people that we Greens have repositioned ourselves and are thus successful."
The Greens had confirmed the party leader Annalena Baerbock on Saturday with around 98.5 percent as a candidate for chancellor.
After their nomination in April, the Greens initially enjoyed a high poll, but then crashed after it became known that Baerbock had reported special payments to the Bundestag and had to correct misleading information in his résumé several times.
